I only look down on them when it is obviously being inflated by adding loads of Movies/OVAs/Specials/Music Videos etc. If I see a high percentage of those via MAL graph and a much lower percentage of TV series the list starts looking suspect rather than having real substance to it.

TV anime isn't the only 'legitimate' way to enjoy anime and lists aren't 'suspect' just because they contain things you don't watch. The way you lump OVAs and movies in with shorts and specials also doesn't make sense to me. But, even if someone just watched music videos, who cares?

If someone watched something and it's on their list, then how is it 'inflated'? Like, a list of a bunch of movies and old OVAs would be more impressive to me than a list containing just every seasonal from the past 5 years.

When several of them are one episode OVAs, 5 min shorts, 30 min specials, and 45 min-1 hour long movies it is obvious what is up. The only reason why I even cited that is because I have several personal friends with MAL accounts who admit that they only watch the things that are very short in length to "fill up" their lists for "credibility" rather than just watching what interests them.

I'm not talking about OVA series like LotGH that are dozens of episodes in length or even something like Gundam Unicorn. I'm referring to one episode OVAs that are 20 something minutes long which is why I grouped them with the other things I listed.

No, it isn't obvious. I don't know, I find this way of just assuming people are watching anime in bad faith because of the presence of certain anime in their list to be weird. But if you're friends are telling the truth about why they watch things then I guess they're even weirder.

I feel more sorry for them when they obviously have an addiction or use it as a crutch, more than anything else.
Life can be cruel and unfair. At worst it can traumatize and cripple you. The desire for wanting things to return to the way they were can cost everything and changes nothing. The best way is to keep moving forward, struggle on.
Anger can be powerful but can only get you so far. Let people into your life even if some of them leave you in time.

When it takes over your life and you're doing NOTHING else, then yeah, that's kind of a concern.

I've just completed my 1000th anime and I don't think my life is meaningless.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to finish shows and still maintain a healthy existence through proper time management and multitasking. It also helps when you work from home, not gonna lie.

Also, you gotta take into consideration how long someone has been watching anime. In my case, I've been watching it fairly regularly since the mid 90s. Even watching only 2-3 anime a month adds up after that long.
If you disagree with any thoughts or opinions expressed in the above post, you're wrong and I hate you forever!

Yes, but what happens when you either finish it all, the internet goes down, or you can't access it someway?

Then what? Do you really want to remember only watching anime when you look back on your life when you're in your 40s or above?

Only when their lists are so massive to the point of being obvious fakes.

Everything that connects to MAL

Contains Ecchi, but not Tagged Ecchi: Part 1 || Part 2 || Part 3

-Its impossible to watch all anime cuz first its a lot of time and second a few are lost media.
-I download anime so i don't care much if my net is down for a while.
-I always can acess to the net to watch anime, its a public service here.
-Last comment is subjective, at least i know i did what i wanted and i will continue it.

Just saying, you might think this now, but when you are actually older and time doesn't seem so infinite, I really think you'll understand my points better.

Coping and escapism are two entirely different things. The latter of which is just making the real issue.

And again, you may have 'safeguards'; oh, I download it, oh it'll never run out, etc.

What if you lose power for weeks at a time? Then what? If it's an addiction, how do you handle it without escaping into it?

I'm not trying to scare you, but it's something important to think about. You can't hide behind it forever. What will you do then?

Not if you're ok with it and it makes you happy. if you're not okay with it and you want to change yourself then yes. because you should focus on making your life better first.

I don't have any problems with them as long as they don't have blown up egos about it.

Whatever makes them happy? At the end of the day anime can be a pretty cheap hobby as you don't technically have to spend any money on it, aside from internet I suppose, and can net years worth of entertainment.

It seems subjective to say someone doesn't have a life. What people choose to do with it is up to them, and comparing lives is dumb anyway. You never know what's going to fulfill who. Some people make millions of dollars, socialize frequently, and still end up committing suicide. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Be honest, when you see over 2000 completed you think to yourself that they have no life.

No? Maybe its just me.

if their average is below 5 and they complete more 90% of the stuff they watch, yes.

because that shows me they have seen hundreds of shows that they believe to be shit.

and you can not tell me all of those shows were fun bad.

i think on all of mal there are like 1200 entries that i think are worth watching (so far).

so even if i had a time stop machine, i still wouldn't watch 2000 anime.

It's more the opposite actually, I think that's pretty cool, it means that 9/10 they have watched something I watched and we can talk about it. At the end of the story you don't know their story etc, and even if "they don't have a life", it's their life and their decisions.

No, if anything I kinda envy them since I haven't been feeling like watching anime all that much in the last couple of months.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

I don't hate people who watched a lot of anime.

I do, however, hate people who BRAG about watching a lot of anime and genuinely think that makes them better than other people.
